Meet the Doctors

Learn Who We Are

  • Josephine Laurel
    Optometrist


    Dr. Josephine Vo Laurel started practicing at Murrieta Optometry in 2020. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her Biomedical Engineering B.S. degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

    “As much as I love seeing new patients, it is also so gratifying to see my returning patients to check up on what has happened in their lives since we last spoke,” says Dr. Laurel.

    When appropriate, Dr. Laurel can introduce a myopia control program for her young patients where she uses disposable soft contact lenses to slow down the progression of nearsightedness in kids under 12 years old.

    In 2012, Dr. Laurel had LASIK surgery after wearing glasses and contact lenses for over 15 years. She is happy to share her experience with you, and can answer any questions regarding LASIK.

    Scott Kamena
    Optometrist / CEO


    Dr. Scott graduated from UC Berkeley's School of Optometry in 1999 and has been practicing for over 20 years.  He enjoys all aspects of Optometry, whether it's finding the perfect solution to your visual needs, eliminating an eye infection, or alleviating the source of dry eye symptoms.  Dr. Scott takes care to explain what's happening to your eyes and answer your questions clearly and understandably.

    He was born and raised in Livermore, graduating with Honors from Livermore High in 1990.  He went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from UC Berkeley, cum laude('with Distinction').  He served on the Board of Directors of the Livermore Area Recreation & Park District (LARPD) and the local YMCA.  His wife, Jennifer, is a former Deputy District Attorney who cares for their 3 delightful children: Audrey, 14; Evan, 11; and Nolan, 8 years old. Dr. Scott speaks Spanish fluently.

    David Liou
    Optometrist


    Dr. David Liou was born and raised in San Diego, CA. He received his bachelor's degree in Biology at UC San Diego, and obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree from UC Berkeley School of Optometry. Dr. Liou can speak Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese, and is currently learning Japanese. During his free time, Dr. Liou enjoys watching musicals, going to Disneyland, traveling around the world, and spending time with his puppy, Perry.

    Melissa Moore
    Optometrist



    Dr. Melissa Moore’s passion for optometry began when her grandfather lost his vision to macular degeneration. She completed both her bachelor’s and optometry degrees at UC Berkeley. During undergrad, Dr. Moore marched trumpet in the Cal Band, including one season where she lead the script Cal ripple bow. During optometry school, she helped perform vision screenings on a “VOSH” trip to Belize and was a recipient of the Bernhardt N. Thal O.D. VSP excellence in Primary Care Award.
    A San Jose native, Dr. Moore enjoys hiking, yoga, and swimming. She loves family adventures with her husband and their daughter Brooke. She also appreciates relaxing and spending time with close friends, including her two cats (Nico and Ollie).
